US petroleum prices hover record high levels
January is typically a month of falling petroleum prices because fuel demand falters in the slower travel weeks that follow the year-end holidays. Not so this year. Last month turned out to be the most expensive January ever at U.S. petroleum pumps, boosted by growing economic strength.

Coryton oil refinery closes
Coryton is one of eight refineries in the UK and supplies one tenth of the country’s total fuel production, with a capacity of 175,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
People in UK were asked by Charles hendry, the oil minister, not to panic, after major oil refinery, Coryton plant in Essex, which supplies a fifth of fuel in London and South East, stopped deliveries to filling stations, when its swiss-owneed parent company went into administration.
Petrol prices slashes down by 30% in Nigeria
The government ended fuel subsidies in Nigeria,on January 1, causing petrol prices to more than double from 65 naira per litre to 140 naira or more, sparking the strike and protests that began on January 9.
